Sadly, with the cordless revolution underway, gimlets have fallen from favor. Early woodworkers used gimlets for pilot holes. They are quick and effective. More importantly to traveling carpenters, gimlets are small and lightweight.

It is possible to purchase a set of gimlets today. There are still cases where they are relevant and the most appropriate tool for the job. I encourage all of my ww buddies to find a set of gimlets and put them out where you can see them. One day you will find the job that they are perfect for and you will thank me.
